Job Description

Attorney Investigator

The NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) seeks a qualified attorney to join NYCHA's EEO and Fair Housing Investigations Unit as an Attorney Investigator. The Investigator will report directly to the Vice President of EFAS. This position requires strong writing and analytical skills, and the ability to work productively in a team setting. Responsibilities of the successful candidates will include the following:

  • Intake employee complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, or retaliation.
  • Assess employee complaints and determine appropriate actions.
  • Perform internal investigations of EEO and fair housing complaints.
  • Conduct interviews of parties and witnesses.
  • Draft investigative finding reports.
  • Research legal cases, EEO policies, or other regulations as necessary.
  • Maintain organized files in a case management system.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to management on mitigating and EEO risks across the Authority.
  • Provide other guidance to employees and managers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in EEO or fair housing matters.
  • Interviewing and investigating skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
