Job Description

About Cimulate

Cimulate is an AI-native eCommerce search and discovery platform built on cutting-edge LLM technology. We help commerce brands deliver radically better shopping experience faster, more relevant, and easier to manage by understanding context rather than relying on brittle rules-based personalization. Backed by top investors and founded by a team who’ve already built and sold another commerce startup (Celect to Nike), we’re now building the future of contextual commerce, and we’re just getting started.

As we continue scaling, we’re seeking a skilled Frontend Software Engineer to help turn our AI-native commerce ideas into polished, user-centric real-world interfaces.

The role

  • Build and maintain modern frontend applications using JavaScript and a framework such as React. Delivering user-facing features that power search, recommendations, conversational commerce, and other tools.
  • Work with multiple design systems: make thoughtful tradeoffs on which design system (or component library) to use in different parts of the product, and help evolve or unify design systems as needed.
  • Plan and execute development based on design/AI-generated mock-ups and product requirements. (This could use tweaking. It implies that the developer should be able to scope their own work on top of implementation, and that they will not always receive fully-detailed tickets that spell out all the things they need to do)
  • Design, build, and maintain custom widgets/components as needed (e.g. interactive search bars, dynamic result lists, recommendation cards, conversation/chat widgets).
  • Collaborate with backend, data science / AI teams, design, and product to connect frontend with backend APIs and AI-driven data. Making sure UI reflects complex data and flows cleanly.
  • Champion user-centric design and UX: advocate for good UX, accessibility, responsive and fluid UI, and delivering interfaces that are intuitive, high-performing, and enjoyable for real users.
  • Write and maintain clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, including unit and integration tests for components and UI workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and help shape frontend architecture, tooling, and best practices as the product and team grow.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and React.
  • Experience working with multiple design systems or UI libraries / component libraries, and the ability to evaluate and choose among them intelligently based on tradeoffs (performance, maintainability, consistency, scalability).
  • Experience integrating third-party libraries / widgets and customizing or wrapping them to fit product needs.
  • Comfortable building custom UI components/widgets from scratch when needed.
  • Solid grasp of web fundamentals: DOM, browser rendering, CSS (responsive layouts, flexbox/grid), performance optimization, event-driven behavior, cross-browser compatibility, etc.
  • Appreciation for good UX and user-centric design; ability to advocate for usability, accessibility, and clean, intuitive interfaces.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment where requirements may evolve. Ability to iterate quickly while maintaining code quality.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills. Able to work across teams (backend/AI, product, design) and translate complex technical or data-driven requirements into user-facing UI.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting. Keeping up with frontend best practices, emerging tools, and evolving needs as AI-native commerce evolves.

Why Join Cimulate?

  • Work with a passionate and collaborative founding team
  • Make a real impact at an early-stage startup with high-growth potential
  • Help redefine the future of online shopping and personalization
  • Target compensation range: $135 - 165K annually. This role also includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus, equity, and our full benefits portfolio. Final compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
