The City of Littleton has an opportunity for a GIS Intern to join the team in a full-time or part-time role. **This internship is expected to last through mid-May, 2026.**
The GIS internship is open for any individual interested in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the realm of Public Works. The GIS Intern will gain hands on, practical application experience in reviewing spatial data in the office and collecting data in the field. They will work primarily with the Asset Management team in the Public Works Department in managing spatial data for sewer, stormwater, transportation, and grounds maintenance features. This position may also work on other city GIS projects and utilize ESRI ArcGIS platforms with the GIS team in the city's Information Technology Department.

**Hiring range: $21.38 - $22.50 per hour**
This temporary intern position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
**Work Schedule:** This position is available for both part-time and full-time schedules. The full-time typical daily schedule is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with a half-hour lunch. This schedule can be adjusted, as can the days and schedules for part-time work.
The employment duration is six months, though this may be adjusted depending on availability and department needs. Hybrid work is a possibility, though most work will require being in-person.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Assists the Asset Management team in reviewing asset inventories and completing updates for sanitary sewer, stormwater, transportation, and grounds maintenance datasets.
+ Reviews infrastructure and development projects and updates both the asset management system and GIS accordingly.
+ Creates static maps and/or mapping applications for various internal requests.
+ Works in the field to collect data and photos using GPS equipment, GIS applications (ESRI, ArcGIS) and/or the asset management application.
+ Performs Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures to ensure all collected data are accurate.
+ May work on specific City of Littleton Asset Management or GIS-related projects, as interest and time allows.
+ Other related duties and tasks as assigned.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent (or will have by the start); and
+ Some college course work in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, or a similar field preferred; or
+ An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
+ Must have a valid driver's license.
+ Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:**
+ Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, and basic experience with ArcGIS Pro and ESRI applications.
+ Basic understanding of GIS principles and spatial reference.
+ Strong technology skills and ability to learn and utilize new systems.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to review data for accuracy.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and develop cooperative working relationships.
+ Interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
**WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:**
+ Work is performed both indoors in a public building environment and outdoors on public grounds and right-of-way. Long periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required.
+ Physical activities include occasions lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
+ Requires ability to sit, stand, operate a vehicle, walk and tolerate extreme weather conditions and temperatures.
