Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000 per year
Status: Exempt

Our School

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020 beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. The Role

Houston Classical is seeking a dynamic school counselor that supports scholars’ academic, social, and emotional development through individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and school-wide programs.   

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to scholars addressing anxiety, peer relationships, academic challenges, family dynamics, and other personal concerns
  • Develop and implement school-wide programs focused on social-emotional learning, bullying prevention, and character education
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to identify scholars who need additional academic or behavioral support and develop targeted intervention plans
  • Deliver structured group lessons aligned with the guidance curriculum, covering topics such as personal health, safety, post-secondary readiness, and interpersonal skills
  • Offer crisis intervention, respond to scholar emergencies, and work with school staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure scholar safety and well-being
  • Provide ongoing counseling, behavior management, and conflict resolution support, including addressing bullying situations and offering mediation when necessary
  • Assist scholars with academic, career, and personal development, including goal setting, graduation planning, and post-secondary opportunities
  • Advocate for a culturally responsive, inclusive school environment, ensuring all scholars have equal access to academic and extracurricular programs
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of counseling sessions, interventions, and scholar progress, in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Analyze scholar data to inform counseling interventions and support decision-making for academic and personal growth
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to support scholar development and provide training on counseling strategies and scholar well-being
  • Participate in school improvement planning and goal setting to foster a positive, supportive school culture
  • Stay current with best practices in school counseling through ongoing professional development and program evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards, and adhere to district safety protocols and emergency procedures

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (Required)
  • Valid school counselor certification or license, as required by state regulations
  • MUST be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) 
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children in a school setting is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with scholars, parents, and staff
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Knowledge of child development and educational practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
