Complimentary meal for every shift worked Job Title: Barista Department: Thrive Here @ Auburn Reports To: Restaurant General Manager/Director of Coffee Operations Job Overview: Located inside of the Hotel at Auburn University, Thrive at Auburn is an extension of the Thrive Roastery and Coffee Shop located inside of the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center. Hotel guests and local patrons will be able to enjoy and taste the quality of Auburn-roasted beans in every cup of handcrafted coffee and freshly made pastry items each day. Duties: Ability to thoughtfully engage with all customers visiting the Thrive Coffee shop about the concept and partnership with Auburn University. Perform mise en place for daily service based on business levels expected. Oversee our guests' experience following Thrive Here @ Auburn powered by Thrive Farmers and IHP's standards of service. Monitor and observe guests' café experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests. Always maintain a neat and clean work environment. Be available to perform lateral service as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the café as directed by the Director of Coffee or immediate supervisor. Prepare foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grind and blend coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea. Sell coffee and tea blends and brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items, and educating customers about brewing methods. Learn about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality. Take inventory and replenish items based on business levels in display cases or behind the café. Working Conditions: Be able to safely lift up to 25 pounds. Considerable repetitive motion of hands, wrists, shoulders, and back is required. Workplace is a fast-paced environment with considerable movement throughout the shift; requires standing and walking 95% of the workday. Team members must have a flexible work schedule and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications: Previous barista experience is preferred. Upon selection, able to complete the Responsible Vendor course for all team members 18 years old and above. A basic knowledge of food & beverage procedures and functions.
