How to write a brief for 3D product animation

Published on

Picture two briefs. One says "we want a cool video of our product". The other says "we want to show light refracting through our perfume bottle, 15 seconds, Instagram first". The second film finishes two weeks earlier and costs less. The difference is not budget; it is the brief.

1. Product data: what do you have?

A CAD file or technical drawing speeds everything up; without one we model from reference photos. Say which you have, and the timeline is built around it.

2. The hero feature: pick one thing

Every product has five features worth bragging about; a film can carry one. The snap of a chocolate, the sparkle of a stone, the thinness of a phone. Our Karmen film is built on a single feeling from start to finish: appetite.

3. The channel list

Product page, social, launch screen? Each channel has its own length and framing; listing them upfront halves the format cost.

4. References: what you like AND what you don't

"We hate this" guides as well as "we love this". Two or three links are plenty; no folders needed.

5. The date: when do you want to publish?

If a launch date is locked, tell us first; we build the schedule backwards from it together.

Write these five headings into one email; no template needed. Drop it into the form on our 3D product animation page and we reply within 24 hours with samples. If you are thinking photo sets rather than video, see the AI visuals guide.
